Netflix Original crime-drama series Young Wallander is based on Henning Mankell’s best-selling novels – Kurt Wallander. The series is written by Anoo Bhagavan and Benjamin Harris and will be co-directed by Ole Endreson and Jens Jonsson.
While the series is based on the same Kurt Wallander novels, Young Wallander is a fresh new take on the character. Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Young Wallander, which tells the story of detective Kurt Wallander’s first case in Sweden after he graduated as a police officer.
Young Wallander – Background
Swedish actor Adam Pålsson features in the eponymous role alongside Argo’s Richard Dillane and Black Mirror’s Leanne Best. It is based and shot in Sweden. Wallander is taken by Kenneth Branagh earlier played Pålsson after the character in a BBC adaptation of Henning Mankell’s novels.
We have officially received a confirmation that the first season of Young Wallander will be released to stream on Netflix on Thursday, September 3rd, 2020. The original series, Wallander, was initially aired on the BBC in the UK. Young Wallander will exclusively be available on Netflix, and won’t be signed by the BBC network.
Young Wallander – Production and filming
In November 2018, it was announced that the series was in the process of production, but it took an additional 12 months before the filming started for the series. We know that filming started on November 15th, 2019, but it’s unclear how long principal photography lasted.
Will there be another season?
It entirely depends on the acceptance of the show by the fans and how well the critics receive it. If the series can earn even half of the popularity as the original Wallander series did, then we can expect to see more.
