Streaming release date and platform confirmed

The highly-anticipated movie ‘Bell Bottom’ premiered in theatres just a few weeks ago, but what date will the movie release on streaming platforms?

If we are being honest, August was one of the best months for Indian cinema and television in a significant amount of time.

Not only did fans get the chance to experience Navarasa, Kuruthi and Shershaah, but Netrikann and Bhuj: The Pride of India too.

However, the month ended on a rather theatrical note, with the release of ‘Bell Bottom’ in cinemas across the world.

Unfortunately, not everyone was able to get out of the house and to a cinema to watch Bell Bottom, so what do we know so far about its digital launch?

Bell Bottom on streaming platforms…

After making its theatrical debut on August 19th, reports started to emerge online that the digital broadcasting rights for Bell Bottom had been acquired by Amazon Prime Video.

The OTT streaming service would then confirm the deal, releasing their own trailer with lead actor Akshay Kumar introducing the movie.

According to Pinkvilla, their sources have revealed the makers of Bell Bottom have been paid INR 75 Crore (around £7.4 million) by Amazon Prime Video.

This would make Bell Bottom the second-most expensive digital acquisition by Amazon Prime Video for an Indian production, only behind 2019’s Bharat which sold for INR 90 Crore (approximately £8.9 million).

At the time of writing, only Amazon Prime Video have publicly stated their acquisition of Bell Bottom, so fans should not expect the movie to be available to stream on other platforms such as Netflix, ZEE5 or Disney Plus Hotstar.

Bell Bottom: Amazon Prime release date…

Bell Bottom will release around the world via the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on Thursday, September 16th.

The original reports on the platform’s acquisition of Bell Bottom stated that the movie would premiere “28 days post its theatrical release.”

This has since been confirmed by the streaming service as part of their official reveal trailer, see below.

Amazon Prime Video has not stated a launch time for Bell Bottom, responding to fans on social media saying they “have no official announcement on the release time” and that fans should “stay tuned” for more announcements.

This article will be updated as soon as we know more information on the exact launch time, so keep checking back in for the latest news on Bell Bottom’s digital release!

How was the movie reviewed and rated?

Unfortunately, Bell Bottom has received a somewhat mixed reaction online from fans and critics alike.

The movie opened to a respectable 2.75 Crore but has since gone on to be a major success at the box office, making a lifetime collection of 29.42 Crore (around $4 million).

However, the feedback has been marked by average audience scores, with Bell Bottom only scoring a 6.5/10 on IMDB and 3.5/5 on The Times of India.

Despite a similar 3/5 score, The Indian Express’ Subhra Gupta called the movie a “let-our-hair-down-caper which embraces its upbeat, silly spirit.”

“‘Bell Bottom’ works on its stated metrics of see, no complexities, everything easy. Fun and games and rat-a-tat action, and no hostages lost, just as they didn’t in real life after the rescue operation was pulled off successfully.” – Subhra Gupta, via The Indian Express.

Interestingly, other user feedback websites have a more positive outlook on Bell Bottom, with BookMyShow reporting a 79% approval rating across more than 26,000 reviews.

However, fans should remember that the movie has not yet had a chance to fully spread its wings, with the upcoming digital launch being a decidedly make-or-break moment for Bell Bottom’s legacy.
