Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after footage emerged of Ozan Kabak and Virgil van Dijk embracing before Turkey’s 6-1 defeat.

What’s the story?

Well, Turkey took on the Netherlands on Tuesday, where they were hammered 6-1 by Louis van Gaal’s side.

Before the game, Kabak could be seen wandering around the tunnel looking for Van Dijk, before he finds him and the pair share a hug.

It was a nice moment to see the two reunite.

Van Dijk – presumably – hasn’t seen Kabak since the 21-year-old returned to Schalke 04, once his loan spell with Liverpool ended in June.

The centre-back has since returned to England, joining Norwich on a season-long loan deal.

Liverpool never paired Kabak with his idol, Van Dijk

The footage of Kabak hugging Van Dijk is very sad to see, as the young Turkish defender never got to play alongside the £75m man at Anfield.

Kabak has openly revealed that Van Dijk is his idol, and said he wants to be just like the ex-Celtic colossus in an interview with the Bundesliga.

He said: “My personal aim is to become a top defender in maybe two or three years, like Virgil van Dijk. He’s my idol, I really like him.”

In that respect, it’s heartbreaking to think that he was literally sharing a dressing room with his idol, but couldn’t share a pitch with him due to Van Dijk’s injury.

Having said that, Kabak is only 21, so their paths may still cross before Van Dijk retires.

Who knows? If the Turk impresses for Norwich this season, maybe we’ll see him back at Anfield for the 2022/23 season.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about the 5-second footage of Van Dijk and Kabak…
