Actor Simu Liu shares a fun Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings video chronicling the press tour for the film in his home city of Toronto.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings actor, Simu Liu, shares a fun video of the Toronto press tour for the film. Shang-Chi is the 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second film in their Phase 4 cycle, after Black Widow launched it in May. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Yeoh, and Florian Munteanu, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings broke the Labor Day box office record, pulling in $75 million in its domestic opening weekend, unseating Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake from 2007.
Simu Liu is primed to be a household name after the success of the film, but he started out with humble beginnings, including dressing up as Spider-Man for birthday parties. The actor did modeling work for stock photos and appeared in several TV shows in smaller roles, including Taken and Blood and Water. Liu famously tweeted to Marvel Studios about the role of Shang-Chi, and eventually landed an audition and secured the iconic role.
The star hails from Toronto, Canada and in a new post on his Instagram, Liu shared a video of the press tour for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which highlights the actor’s return home to celebrate the release. Liu is seen enjoying his favorite food from the area, getting a massage, interacting with fans, and introducing the premiere to local fans. Liu even heads to the Toronto Raptors home court to shoot some hoops, showing off his basketball skills, which shows he’s got a few more talents than acting and martial arts. Besides Liu, there are many famous actors who hail from Canada and have made an impact in Hollywood. Ryan Reynolds, Keanu Reeves, Michael J. Fox, Ryan Gosling, Seth Rogen, Rachel McAdams, Stephen Amell, Evangeline Lilly and many, many more have crossed over from “The Great White North” onto the shores of Hollywood and left their mark. Liu joins the ranks of those stars and is continuing his movie journey with Mark Wahlberg in Arthur The King before his eventual return as Shang-Chi.
Liu has been an outspoken presence even before he secured the role of Shang-Chi, and that hasn’t slowed down since. The actor was quick to shoot down the “experimental” comments made by Bob Chapek in a Disney shareholder meeting and has continued to push for dialogue about Asian representation in Hollywood. Showing such strong resolve early on will likely work in Liu’s favor, as he’s not likely to be pushed around or silenced in the wake of projects or ideas he believes in. For audiences, Liu’s steadfast attitude and playful nature are sure to serve him well in a long career now that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has lit the fuse.
