Netflix has just shared the official trailer for their upcoming anime feature movie and spin-off to the popular 2017 film, Bright: Samurai Soul.
Netflix original movie ‘Bright’ starring Will Smith was arguably one of the biggest disappointments of 2017.
However, the franchise is showing its resurgence with both a sequel movie and a spin-off anime being announced.
The streaming giant recently shared the first video trailers for the spin-off, titled Bright: Samurai Soul. Here, we breakdown everything fans need to know, including plot, release and production staff!
What is Bright: Samurai Soul?
Bright: Samurai Soul is an anime feature film that serves as a spin-off title to the 2017 movie starring Will Smith, Bright.
The movie is set in 1860’s Japan and will centre around two warriors, a human called Izo the Ronin and an Orc called Raiden.
Raiden and Izo must team up to escort a young elf girl, Sonya, and the infamous magic wand to her homeland in the north of the country.
“In the early years of Japan’s Meiji Restoration, a human ronin must unite with an orc assassin to save an elf orphan from their common adversary.” – Synopsis, via Netflix.
What date will Bright: Samurai Soul release?
Bright: Samurai Soul is currently scheduled to release worldwide via Netflix on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021.
Details on the film’s production are scarce, but Netflix is expected to reveal more information as we move closer towards October.
The movie is labelled as a Netflix original title, so fans should not expect Bright: Samurai Soul to release on other available streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, Funimation or Amazon Prime Video.
This article will be updated with an exact release time closer to the scheduled premiere.

At the time of writing, only the voice cast for the three main characters (Izo, Raiden and Sonya) have been confirmed.
