Speaking on talkSPORT’s YouTube channel, Darren Ambrose has made his case for Heung-Min Son winning the Ballon d’Or within the next two years.
Ambrose was playing a game where he had to back up some statements written by another pundit, and he was tasked with making a case for Son winning a Ballon d’Or.
The pundit made a compelling argument for Son being crowned the world’s best player at some point.
What’s been said?
Ambrose was full of praise for the Korean.
“Heung-Min Son is one of two world-class players for Tottenham Hotspur, along with Harry Kane, when Harry doesn’t play, Son always steps up. Last five years he’s scored above 18 goals, last season 17 goals 10 assists, year before 11 goals 10 assists. Look at the players that have won it, Ronaldo, Messi. Luka Modric won it, so why not? Why can’t he win the Ballon d’Or?” Ambrose said.
If Modric can
As Ambrose says, if Luka Modric can win this award why can’t Son?
Of course, it’s not a likely scenario, but if Son can lead South Korea to a run in the World Cup and help Spurs to another Champions League final, why can’t he win this award?
Some people have been tipping Jorginho for the award this year, and it’s fair to say that he’s not levels above Son, so if the attacker steps up a gear, there’s no reason why he can’t be a contender for this award.
Whether or not he does make that step up remains to be seen, but stranger things have happened in football.
