India’s Former President Pranab Mukherjee Passes Away

India’s former President Pranab Mukherjee has passed away after battling with illness and COVID-19. On 10th August, the news came out that Mr. Mukherjee was hospitalized after he slipped in his bathroom. He underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain, which resulted from his accident. 

Even after the surgery, his condition kept deteriorating. His condition was critical enough to put on life support at Army’s Research and Referral(R & R) Hospital, Delhi. On 13th August, he fell into a permanent state of deep coma from which he couldn’t recover. During his struggle with illness, he caught a lung infection. 

Today, on 31st August, according to Indian Time 5:46 PM, his son Abhijit Mukherjee officially confirmed his demise by tweeting. 

Mr. Mukherjee served as India’s 13th president from 2012 to 2017. He has also done various important political positions like Union Finance Minister of India(2009-2012 and 1982-1984), Defence Minister(2004-2006), Minister of External Affairs(2006-2009). 

He also received India’s highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna in 2019 by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
