In terms of features, the OnePlus Buds Pro are comparable to other true wireless earbuds but lacks several essential capabilities, such as sound customization.
While this headset doesn’t stand out, it accomplishes everything well enough to satisfy most people.
If you like OnePlus and want wireless earphones, try the OnePlus Buds Pro.
Because of limited availability and support, we can’t suggest the OnePlus Buds or OnePlus Buds Z to anyone outside the OnePlus ecosystem.
The business tries to make amends with genuine wireless OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds.
A bevvy of performance advancements is appealing, but they come at a premium price.
Can OnePlus Buds Pro Compete With Others?
OnePlus Buds Pro review was modified on January 11, 2022, to reflect the newest software update enabling dual connections and quick switching.
Who Should Get OnePlus Buds Pro?
Beginners searching for real wireless earbuds.
OnePlus Buds Pro are jack-of-all-trades but master of none.
Fans of OnePlus will enjoy the firm sticking to its tried-and-true formula: all the necessities at a reduced price.
The OnePlus Buds Pro’s lightweight and water-resistant design makes them ideal for gym-goers.
OnePlus Buds Pro: How Do They Work?
Wish Apple AirPods Pro arrived in matte black? You’ll adore the OnePlus Buds Pro.
From the rounded earphone shape to the short projecting stems, OnePlus was inspired by Goliath.
Touch controls for playback, listening modes, and calls are the same as on the AirPods Pro.
No matter how much OnePlus copied Apple, these look premium, especially at this pricing.
A shiny metal stem contrasts with the matte black finish (also available in white).
OnePlus provides only three silicone ear tips, not memory foam like Sony WF-1000XM4.
As the earbuds are featherlight, comfort wasn’t an issue.
In-ear recognition pauses music when you remove an earbud and resumes when you insert it.
With an IP55 rating, the OnePlus Buds pros are sweat and water-resistant.
These earphones are light and sturdy, making them a terrific workout partner.
The IPX4 rating is rare and only seen on the Jaybird Vista 2.
Is HeyMelody Worth Downloading?
Melody is the iOS and Android companion software for the OnePlus Buds Pro.
It provides firmware updates, a fit test, and earbud control customisation.
App’s home page displays earbud and case battery information.
OnePlus replaced the app’s EQ with a hearing test called Audio ID.
It examines your ability to discern tones over a range of frequencies and produces an EQ setting (something Jabra does).
A hexagonal frequency chart displays test results, with no opportunity to change the particular sound profile.
What About Personalization?
The OnePlus Buds Pro lack a personalised EQ profile.
The Zen Mode Air function downloads ambient noises and white noise to the headphones.
The earbud controls can activate these noises even when not connected to a device.
To unwind after a long day at work, these relaxing sounds are ideal.
On the OnePlus Buds Pro, you may choose between transparency, noise-cancelling, and off.
Within the app, choose “smart” or “max noise cancellation.”
Smart noise cancellation is on by default and reacts to environmental noise.
As the name implies, max noise cancellation reduces ambient sounds to the earphones’ utmost.
Which Bluetooth Supports It?
The OnePlus Buds Pro feature Bluetooth 5.2 and SBC, AAC, and LHDC codecs. While SBC and AAC are standard on truly wireless earphones, LHDC is newer.
With a maximum bitrate of 900kbps and a max sample rate of 96kHz, LHDC data transmission rates are three times that of SBC and AAC.
LHDC isn’t supported by every OnePlus phone.
The feature will be limited to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, devices expected for the next Oxygen OS iteration, and following releases.
LHDC won’t work on OnePlus Nord devices.
It Also Has Pro Gaming Mode As Well!
You can select “Pro Gaming mode” to minimise latency to 94 milliseconds on OnePlus devices with OxygenOS 11 and higher.
Only the OnePlus 7 series and upwards support Dolby Atmos.
Can The OnePlus Buds Pro Be Connected Twice?
OnePlus updated the device and app firmware to version 531.531.410 on January 11, 2022.
OnePlus smartphones and the HeyMelody app now support dual connection via headphone settings.
You must then:
Close the earbud lid.
To pair, press and hold the inside of the lid for up to five seconds until the LED steadily flashes white
The OnePlus Buds Pro may pair with a secondary device.
Once paired, it will appear in the app’s “Connected Devices” section.
Now you may smoothly flip between the two.
How Well Does The OnePlus Buds Pro Cancel Noise?
The OnePlus Buds Pro have weak ANC.
The smart noise cancelling mode isn’t particularly useful, thus most listeners will just select “max noise cancellation” With the max setting, train or AC sounds are slightly reduced. 100-1000Hz sounds are 25% quieter with OnePlus Buds Pro.
Passive isolation from silicone ear tips falls short of rival earbuds. Even with a snug fit, only high-frequency noises are blocked out.
These earbuds won’t quiet the cabin if you fly often.
Any level of isolation and ANC precludes auditory masking from environmental noises.
Reducing auditory masking improves sound quality and makes you less tempted to turn up the volume to filter out disturbances, safeguarding your hearing.
Despite this, the OnePlus Buds Pro outperform most competitors in terms of noise reduction.
How Are The OnePlus Buds Pro?
Great bass and a treble boost from the OnePlus Buds Pro frequency response closely matches our house curve. Since there’s no custom EQ in the companion app, OnePlus Buds Pro can’t be easily tuned.
You can only adjust the EQ settings in your streaming service, but they will carry over to other devices.
If you want earth-shattering bass, look elsewhere.
The OnePlus Buds Pro have less bass than regular consumer earphones.
Bass sounds rarely overpower other instruments (see auditory masking), thus vocals and other instruments can shine.
When the sub-bass hits at 2:45 in Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish, the vocals and guitar are still clear.
Battery life Of OnePlus Buds Pro?
OnePlus says the earbuds last 5 hours with ANC and 7 hours without it.
The earphones lasted 6 hours 30 minutes with continuous playback at 75dB (SPL) with ANC enabled.
Most businesses overstate headphone battery life, but OnePlus may be understating it.
Extra playback time from the charging case adds up to 31 hours—23 hours with ANC enabled.
Charge the case wirelessly or with USB-C for 10 hours of playback in 10 minutes.
Given that the OnePlus Buds Pro lack changeable batteries, its lifespan is restricted to a few years.
The OnePlus Buds Pro microphone is good.
Stem-designed earphones often have higher microphone quality than others by positioning a microphone at the base of the stem, but I found the OnePlus Buds Pro to be less clear than the AirPods Pro.
In the recording below, I enter a room with a fan and air purifier running at full volume.
The noise reduction algorithm blocks out much of the white noise in the background.
Three integrated mics function well enough for calls, but we don’t suggest them for professional use.
On January 5, 2022, 89% of respondents rated the microphone sample “acceptable” or “good,” which is outstanding for true wireless headphones.
What Is The Difference Between OnePlus Buds Pro, Buds, And Buds Z?
OnePlus Buds were the company’s flagship audio product before the OnePlus Buds Pro.
The original Buds cost $79, much cheaper than Buds Pro.
OnePlus Buds have an open fit, whereas OnePlus Buds Pro are closed.
OnePlus Buds mirror the original AirPods so they don’t seal to your ear canals.
The first-gen earbuds are IPX4, but the casing is not.
Automatic ear detection, wireless, USB-C, and fast charging are available when coupled with the OnePlus 7 series phones and later.
OnePlus Buds Z2 are $99 genuine wireless earbuds.
The first-generation OnePlus Buds Z had an open fit, and the Buds Z2 do as well.
You get automated play/pause, noise-cancelling, and limited Dolby Atmos support.
OnePlus Buds Pro: Purchase Or Not?
OnePlus’ motto is “Never Settle,” but it’s hard to imagine someone picking up the Buds Pro without settling.
From personalization to sound to noise cancellation, the OnePlus Buds Pro is average.
It’s hard to deny that these earbuds are an improvement over the original OnePlus Buds. $150 deserves earbuds that do more.
The OnePlus Buds Pro are decently designed but not great.
I adore the style and design of these earbuds, and if you do too, that may be enough to convince you to buy.
Other than a custom EQ, the OnePlus Buds Pro don’t lack any vital features.
The OnePlus Buds Pro feel like another pair of mid-range true wireless earphones and won’t stand out for long.
Alternatives To OnePlus Buds Pro?
To compete with Samsung and Apple’s pro true wireless earbuds, OnePlus added the “Pro” name.
If you have the bucks and a Galaxy phone, get the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.
AirPods Pro are currently under $200 for Apple users.
You may also get the Amazon Echo Buds (2nd Gen) for about $100.
These earphones have superior noise cancellation to the OnePlus Buds Pro and additional Alexa integrations.
