Olivia Liang Does Shang-Chi Bus Stunt To Celebrate Kung Fu Season 2

Kung Fu star Olivia Liang takes a break from training for season 2 to recreate Simu Liu’s double kick from the bus fight scene in Shang-Chi.

Kung Fu star, Olivia Liang, is currently in training for season 2 and shared a video of herself recreating the iconic bus stunt from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsKung Fu is the CW’s reboot of the classic 1972 series starring David Carradine which ran for 3 seasons. The show, which ended its 13-episode season 1 in July, stars Liang, Eddie Liu, Kheng Hua Tan, and Shannon Dang. Kung Fu has already been renewed for season 2.

In Kung Fu, Olivia Liang plays Nickey Shen, a Harvard student who dropped out to study kung fu at a Chinese monastery. When she returns home, she must use her newfound skills to combat a criminal triad and get revenge on the assassin who killed her Shaolin master. Throughout her adventures, she must face such challenges as a murder in Chinatown, a sorority with a dark secret, and a K-pop concert in Vegas.

Now that production has begun on the new season, Liang is back in the studio training for her upcoming kung fu challenges. On her Twitter, Liang posted a video with her trainers, explaining how she “begged them” to teach her the double kick Shang-Chi performs in the MCU film when taking down the Ten Rings assassins on the bus. She added, “Simu Liu watch ur back i’m coming for u i’ve trained for 300 more hours.” After performing the move, pretend-knocking-down her trainers, she strikes a cheeky pose on the mats. See the video below:

It looks like Marvel mania affects people inside the industry as much as people on the outside. This video is both a delightful stunt and a fun glimpse into how actors who are passionate about their craft spend their leisure time between training sessions. Liang could very well have just eaten some grapes and scrolled through Twitter, but she dedicated herself to learning a move that she won’t even have to do in the show, just for the thrill of engaging with an impressive feat from a fellow performer.

Hopefully, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu sees this video and responds in kind. Although Kung Fu has not been well received by fans of the original, one exciting takeaway is that Hollywood is at least making some progress in diversifying its storytelling. Just a couple of years ago, the idea that an Asian lead from an action franchise would have another contemporary Asian action hero to pay homage to would have been inconceivable.
