Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno has told Football.London that Dele Alli can and will score goals under him this season.
Nuno believes that despite changing Alii’s position in midfield, there is every chance that the 25-year-old will find the back of the net.
The Tottenham no.20 has scored one goal in three Premier League appearances so far this season.
Alli has been deployed in central midfield rather than in a more attacking role.
The youngster could not score in the league last season and found the back of the net eight times in 21 league starts in 2019-20.
Nuno told Football.London about Alli’s goal-threat: “He has it. It is part of his work and part of his characteristic. He has goals in him.”
Getting better under Nuno
Alli was able to make only seven starts and eight substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.
Then Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho did not play the former MK Dons youngster regularly enough.
It seems that Nuno has more faith in Alli than Mourinho did.
Alli is not at his best yet, but there are some very positive signs indeed.
The former MK Dons midfielder scored nine goals in the Premier League in 2017-18 and found the back of the net 18 times in the league in 2016-17.
It is unlikely that Alli will get 15+ goals in the Premier League this season if he plays in the deeper role in midfield, but he could well get close to 10.
