Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been discussing Hector Bellerin after his departure from the club on loan this summer.
The Gunners let Bellerin leave as he searched for a new challenge after a decade in north London, and while he has only departed on a temporary basis, it doesn’t sound as though he’ll be coming back.
Indeed, Arteta has spoken about Bellerin as if he’s played his last game for the club, and with reports this summer claiming that he wanted to leave the Emirates permanently, that wouldn’t surprise us.
What’s been said?
Arteta was speaking about Bellerin after his departure.
“He’s been a really important part of everything that happened at Arsenal in the last 10 years. He’s an exceptional player and incredible player and he will be missed,” Arteta said.
“He’s loved by everybody at the club. He needed a new challenge so we decided to let him go.”
It’s a shame that Bellerin felt the need to leave Arsenal.
As Arteta says, everyone at the club loves the Spaniard and as the manager also says, he’s an incredible player.
However, some players just need new challenges at certain points of their career, and this was the time that Bellerin felt he needed to move on.
Time will tell whether or not it was the right decision from the right-back, but Arsenal have let go a player that is a bit of a modern legend and someone who will certainly be remembered very fondly in north London.
