ITV has become the bona fide home of detective dramas in recent years and Grantchester stands out as one of the channel’s most popular efforts.
In 2021, the Robson Green and Tom Brittney-led drama returns for its long-awaited sixth series, which arrives more than one year after season 5 left our screens.
But just who joins Grantchester’s cast for season 6 and who are the guest stars of episode 2?
Grantchester season 6, episode 2 release date and plot
After getting underway last week, season 6 of Grantchester continues with episode 2 on Friday, September 10th.
Following on from episode 1’s holiday trip gone wrong, the week’s instalment centres on the parentage of a young child whose baptism service is disrupted when a man bursts in claiming to be the child’s rightful father.
The smiling couple at the front obviously disputes the claim and Will and Geordie find themselves drawn into a complicated family dispute that seems to be connected to the recent murder of Joan Beaumont, the head of the local adoption agency.
To make matters more complicated still, a sinister blackmail letter arrives for Leonard and Will is forced to visit his own perplexing family in the hopes of raising the money to pay the blackmailer’s demand.

Guest star spotlight
Jemma Redgrave as Amelia Gurney-Clifford
While Jemma Redgrave has appeared on Grantchester as Will’s mother before, she has only appeared sporadically since first appearing in 2019’s series 4.
The niece of Vanessa Redgrave, Jemma has been working in the acting industry since the 1980s and has Holby City, Doctor Who, Silent Witness and ITV period drama Bramwell among her previous roles.
Dominic Mafham as St John Gurney-Clifford
Dominic Mafham is another returning cast member as he reprises his role of St John Gurney-Clifford, Will’s step-father.
With almost 70 acting roles to his name, fans will likely have seen Dominic in something, whether that’s in The Clinic, Kingdom, Always and Everyone or more recent projects such as Killing Eve and BBC murder mystery Strike.
Christina Cole as Joan Beaumont
London-born actress Christina Cole takes on the role of Joan Beaumont in episode 2 but it’s best not to get too attached as she’s this week’s unfortunate murder victim.
Christina has over 50 acting roles to her name with notable appearances coming in Strike, Chaos, Bond film Casino Royale and US TV drama Suits which also starred a certain Meghan Markle.
Emily Patrick as Tamara Gurney-Clifford
Emily Patrick takes on the role of a new member of Will’s extended family in the form of his step-sister, Tamara.
With her debut coming in 2017, Emily has only recently broken into the acting industry but she already has some impressive projects on her CV including The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and BBC series Poldark.
Miles Jupp as Marcus Asper
And finally, we come to Miles Jupp who takes on the role of Marcus Asper.
If fans don’t recognise Miles from his appearances in The Durrells, Rev, Johnny English Reborn and as Balamory’s Archie, he’s also appeared on a myriad of panel shows from Would I Lie to You? to QI.
Grantchester season 6 continues on ITV with episode 2 at 9pm on Friday, September 10th, 2021.
