Liverpool produced a superb performance to beat Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, with Diogo Jota turning in a surprise performance.

The Reds won 3-0 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were by far the better side and found the goals to prove it.

What was really surprising was the contribution of Jota. Not in the sense that Jota played well for Liverpool, but more in terms of his creativity.

Jota recorded six key passes against Leeds, setting up teammates for fun. Sadly, none of them could convert.

That was more than Trent Alexander-Arnold. More than Mohamed Salah. More than Thiago and Sadio Mane combined.

Jota becoming a more rounded player at Liverpool?

The numbers maybe just point to one fortunate game for Jota.

However, they may also suggest that Jota is becoming a more rounded player at Liverpool.

The Portuguese ace always had Raul Jimenez with him at Wolves. Jimenez has a superb all-round game, whereas Jota was more of a scorer than a creator.

In his two full Premier League seasons at Wolves, Jota only registered more than two key passes in any given game three times.

The highest number of key passes in one game for Jota at Wolves was four. That happened just once.

For Jota to record six key passes in one game, it maybe points to him growing into the false nine role at Anfield.

Let’s hope he keeps this going and continues to link up play well in the final third and the assists may flow.
