Now, Sabrina has dropped her newest single from her forthcoming album and revealed details behind the song’s meaning.
Sabrina drops Skinny Dipping
The singer surprised her fans across the globe and dropped the music video of her latest single, named Skinny Dipping, on September 9th, 2021.
The song is part of her upcoming album with Island Records after she released four albums with Disney’s Hollywood Records.
Sabrina sings about her time with a former boyfriend, how would she hear his name in a coffee shop and how they used to swim on the edge of the cliff.
Skinny Dipping comes after the release of Skin in January this year.
Lyrics of new single explored
The lyrics of Skinny Dipping hint at a former relationship of Sabrina in which she reimagines her time with her ex-boyfriend.
The song starts as the following:
It’ll be a Wednesday
And I’ll be going in this coffee shop
Hear the barista call an oat milk latte and your name
And I look up from my phone
And think there’s no chance it’s you, but it is
You’ll say, “Hi”, I’ll say, “Hi, how are you?”
You’ll say, “How’s your family? How’s your sister?”
I’ll say, “Shannon’s being Shannon”
Then the chorus continues:
We’ve been swimming on the edge of a cliff
I’m resistant, but going down with the ship
It’d bе so nice, right? Right?
If we could take it all off and just еxist
And skinny dip in water under the bridge
In a new interview with Teen Vogue, Sabrina revealed that all her songs are about her life and the situations she’s been through. She explained that with Skinny Dipping she imagined herself in a future moment where she has healed from a love drama.
“I didn’t feel in that moment that I was at a place where I could literally be skinny dipping in water under the bridge,” she told the publication. “I didn’t feel like I was healed and fully out of a place where I didn’t hold any anger or resentment.”
As many of Sabrina’s fans have written on social media, the singer is “getting rid of her old self” in Skinny Dipping to make place for the “new Sabrina”.
Speaking about the lyrics behind Skin, she added in the same interview: “I felt like in that moment, the most honest thing would be to put it out when it was accurately reflecting what was going on in my life.
“Because that’s literally all I ever do is write about my life and my situations, not just my life, but the way I see the world through situations I’m experiencing, people I’m experiencing. Then it’s kind of on everyone else and what they choose to make about it. You know what I mean?”
