Rio Ferdinand has suggested on BT Sport 1 (2:27pm, September 11, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno needs to make more use of Tanguy Ndombele.
The former Manchester United defender made the comments about Ndombele following Tottenham’s defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League yesterday.
Spurs, who went down to 10 men in the second half, suffered a 3-0 loss in the London derby.
“There’s been moments in the past two seasons where you’re sitting there going, ‘Wow, what a talent’.
“But he’s never been able to put it together under various managers now. You ask: ‘What is the problem here?’
“Because they were crying out for creativity from central areas. He’s someone who’s got that in his locker, but for some reason we’re not seeing him out on the pitch.”
Should Nuno bring back Tanguy Ndombele?
The London Evening Standard reported this week that Ndombele hopes to be playing for Spurs in the coming days.
The 24-year-old France international midfielder reportedly wanted to leave Spurs in the summer transfer window.
Spurs head coach Nuno did not use the former Lyon star in pre-season or in competitive matches.
However, with Ndombele now set to stay at Spurs, until January at least, it would make sense for Nuno to reintegrate the midfield in his team.
After all, there is no point in keeping out a player such as Ndombele out of the team.
However, the 24-year-old will have to work extremely hard to get into the Tottenham starting lineup.
That Ndombele was on the bench against Palace indicates that things are heading in the right direction.
