TV fans are no stranger to a good spin-off…
From The Jeffersons to Better Call Saul, audiences have been invited to check out so many gems over the years, whether you’re into sitcoms, crime dramas, or everything in between.
As you’ll know, sometimes it takes many years for the creators to realise that they can successfully branch off from another show. If there’s demand for a series to be resurrected long down the line, sometimes a spin-off is simply the best avenue to pursue.
On the other hand, some spin-offs have spawned almost immediately after the original aired. After all, when your fanbase loves it so much, why stall building a franchise?
911: Lone Star arrived just two years after 911, premiering on Fox back in January 2020. Since then, it has become just as beloved as its predecessor, attracting some serious talent to hop aboard.
After an exciting second batch of episodes, hopes have turned to 911: Lone Star season 3, so here’s what we know so far.
911 Lone Star season 3: What we know so far
Lone Star fans can rest assured that production has already begun, as Hello! Magazine highlights that the show’s official Twitter page posted the following:
“BREAKING: Production on ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Season 3 will officially commence on September 7th. Production is expected to wrap April 19th, 2022!”
While this would lead us to believe that the season won’t begin premiering until the summer of 2022, TVLine includes that season 3 is actually being held until January 2022, as this is when 911 is expected to go on hiatus.
Both shows are then expected to resume in March, with episodes of 911 and Lone Star essentially screening back-to-back.
As of yet, an official release date for Lone Star season 3 episode 1 hasn’t been confirmed.
Considering the season is said to be premiering before production has wrapped in April, it’s likely that we can expect a hiatus at some point in the season while the cast and crew are working on the remaining episodes they’re yet to shoot.
“Y’all are not prepared”
As for what to expect, it was teased at Fox’s Upfront presentation that fans would be wise to “keep an eye out for a crossover in the back half of the season.”
With the ball now officially rolling on production, some details have made their way online. On Tuesday, September 7th 2021, Ronen Rubinstein Merman posted a picture of a script captioned “EPISODE 1”.
The image details that the season will open with an episode called ‘The Big Chill’. Just two days prior he also tweeted: “Reading Episode 1 on the beach. Y’all are not prepared.”
Audiences will also be glad to hear that (who plays Nancy Gillian) has been promoted to a series regular for season 3.
She has been a recurring presence ever since the spin-off began and we can expect to find out a lot more about her in forthcoming episodes, as revealed by showrunner Tim Minear during a conversation with TVLine:
“We’re going to learn more about her. It’s funny, the story that we gave her this year of feeling like she wasn’t at the cool kids’ table, was sort of me and [executive producer Rashad Raisani] writing about how she was kind of treated on the show until we realized how incredibly cool she is.”
Tim added: “So the characters talking about her character on screen is really me and Rashad talking about Brianna and how incredible she is.”
We can also expect Rob Lowe (Owen), Ronen Rubinstein (T.K.), Sierra McClain (Grace), Jim Parrack (Judd), Natacha Karam (Marjan), Brian Michael Smith (Paul), Rafael Silva (Carlos), Julian Works (Mateo) and Gina Torres (Tommy) back as series regulars too.
In the meantime…
While Lone Star’s third season seems a little distant right now, you won’t have to wait long at all for 911 to return.
The fifth season of 911 will begin premiering with episode 1 on Monday, September 20th, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
Be sure not to miss it!
