You know that Corning is a big name when it comes to smartphones, right? Almost every upmarket smartphone comes with a Gorilla Glass protection for the screen. Well, Corning has recently launched a new edition of Gorilla Glass. It’s claimed to survive a 2 meters drop quickly. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is the name given to it.
The company says Corning Victus can survive damages and scratches occurring from higher drops quickly. The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is the new name, unlike its predecessors that were identified by a number series.
Corning Gorilla Glass Victus: How Tough is it?
The official Twitter handle of Corning has posted this slapper test, which gives you an idea of how tough this next-gen screen protection glass is. As we previously said, it can survive a 6 feet drop without any issue.
The mega-slapper test suggests that your phone will resist the scratches, impacts and damages with better quality than the previous screen protection iterations, or Gorilla Glass 6 did. Here you can watch the test:
We created the Slapper to test the drop performance of mobile device glass. Where our Mini Slapper destroyed competitive aluminosilicate, not even our Mega Slapper could defeat Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus™.

Corning is a trusted, famous brand amongst smartphone makers. You can see Gorilla Glass being used in smartphones of Apple, Sony, Motorola, Huawei, Asus, LG, and others.
Since the Victus is rolled out now, we can see it with upcoming smartphones pretty soon. It’s not just smartphones that benefit from the screen-protection, you get Gorilla Glass with smartwatches, tablets and laptops. So be it Android or iOS gadget, you are likely to see it on your phone.
John Bayne, Senior VP, Corning Inc. said that they are making glasses more durable and sturdy. He said that while commenting on the massive upgrade in the quality of glass to Wired.
Because they don’t upgrade the products as much, he thinks that the people are looking forward to keeping their smartphones for a more extended period. For that, they need one that will stick around a little longer.
The real test of any protection glass is when a user drops it in an uncertain situation. You can imagine dropping your phone mistakenly on stairs, it tumbles two or three times and hits every step while falling. That can be a real test for Victus. However, we do not recommend doing that.
The news is that the first commercial launch of Victus will be with new Samsung Galaxy devices from August 5.
