Billy Bob Thornton is set to guest star in the upcoming Yellowstone prequel series, 1883, alongside Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliot.
Billy Bob Thornton has joined the cast of the upcoming Yellowstone prequel series, 1883. Yellowstone was created by Taylor Sheridan and premiered on Paramount Network beginning on June 20, 2018. The series stars Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes as members of the Dutton family. Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in America, through family drama and conflicts with bordering Native reservations and national parks. The show’s success led to the recent announcement that Yellowstone would be getting a prequel series on Paramount+. The prequel series, 1883, has quite the line-up so far, with Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliot signed on to portray the Dutton family generations before Yellowstone takes place.
As reported by Deadline, Thornton has been added to the cast of 1883 as a guest star. Thornton will take on the role of Marshal Jim Courtright, while McGraw and Hill will star as James Dutton and Margaret Dutton, respectively. They will also be joined by actresses Isabela May and LaMonica Garrett. The series is set to launch on December 9th, 2021 on Paramount+ and will be a stark retelling of the Western expansion.
Thornton is best known for films such as Sling Blade, Bad Santa, A Simple Plan, and Monster Ball. However, he has recently taken to the small screen with his performance in Amazon’s Goliath, which garnered him a Golden Globe, as well as his award-winning performance in Fargo. The strong ensemble that 1883 boasts bodes well for the prequel, as it faces the difficult task of topping Yellowstone. However, with Yellowstone‘s creator returning to produce the series and with Thornton, power couple McGraw and Hill, and The Ranch’s Elliot signed on, 1883 has much potential as its premiere approaches.
