Breaking: Conference USA Moving Forward with Football Season

Big 12 Announcement Amidst the growing tension about the global pandemic, the Big 12 announced they are willing to step forward about playing football in the fall. The Board of directors met for an hourly discussion on Tuesday about the postponement of fall sport until 2021.

The excerpt from the BoDs suggests the athlete students want the competition to unleash their energy. Keeping this in mind Board is looking forward to organizing the fall sport with safety measures highly implemented.

They are consulting doctors, scientists to carry forward a whole event. Directors emphasized the safety of the athletes will not be neglected if any situation arises compromising safety the Board may postpone the event.

New Schedule of Football Combination

A new schedule is published in September. Players would need to adhere to the “9 plus 1” scheme. There will be a combination of conference and non-conference games. The Big 12 also decided to vigil the health of the student-athletes.

Enhanced COVID-19 testing, besides three tests per week in a high contact sport like football, volleyball, and soccer. Players must go through Electrocardiogram, blood troponin test, EKG, ECG for monitoring their cardiac health —as a result of the growing concern of the university and Board for the myocarditis in players who had suffered from COVID.

UNT players are reported to return to campus in different phases in the July beginning, whereas the remainder may join in mid-July. According to the players, their sporty soul is happy to be back on the field with others, the school’s basketball, football, volleyball, soccer all teams are back on the field.

According to the report, UNT had only one active case of corona in the full athletic division. And the latest test results will be back by this weekend. 

On the other hand, AAC IS observing the situation before making any significant decisions. On the Twitter handle of Conference USA, it declared to emphasize myocarditis, mental health and they had also increased the testings’.

Additional Announcements

The Pac-12 decided to cancel all the upcoming matches until the end of 2020. Big ten had also divided to move out until the pandemic situation got into the controllable hands. Big 12 decided to go on with the football leagues. And the new schedule would be released on Wednesday.

Old Dominion also had canceled all its matches of this season. Rice extended the date of the start of the league season to September 26th. North Texas had also extended the date for the open match against Houston Baptist on September 5th, at Apogee stadium. 

Louisiana Tech was forcibly closed for the practice as there were five active Covid-19 positives.

Even, UTEP was also closed due to 4 positive cases of the corona. And finally, Conference USA had decided to continue with a league where they had allowed to play the eight conference games and four non-conference games.

The question is, when can UNT pace up with its season? And whether it’s okay for C-USA to continue in this pandemic also?
