Holistic Review?

Anker hopes to compete in the crowded Bluetooth speaker market with the Soundcore Motion+.

The Anker Soundcore Motion+ strives to give good sound in a waterproof and portable device for everyday use.

Despite the lack of fancy features such as the ability to charge your phone or optical input.

What About The User Experience?

The Anker Soundcore Motion+ isn’t the most portable Bluetooth speaker, weighing in at slightly over a kilogramme.

Although it may still fit in a backpack, I prefer to use it at home.

The speaker’s wired and Bluetooth connectivity choices make it easy to move between rooms and devices.

And the speaker’s size means it can easily grow loud enough for small gatherings and parties.

The Anker Soundcore Motion+ is also a wonderful pool party buddy, thanks to its IPX7 rating.

However, due to the lack of dust resistance, you should avoid taking this speaker to the beach.

Hikers, cyclists, and other outdoor enthusiasts should opt for something smaller, such as the JBL Clip 4.

The speaker’s rubberized silicone backing provides a secure grip for carrying with one hand or laying on any flat surface.

Build Quality?

Meanwhile, the metal grille that surrounds the speaker components seems sturdier.

And premium than the fabric enclosures found on many other waterproof speakers.

Unlike speakers like the Bose SoundLink Revolve+ II, which have 360-degree sound.

The Anker Soundcore Motion+ only directs sounds in one direction.

This means you’ll have to be a little selective when it comes to speaker placement.

However, you can use wireless stereo pairing to connect two Motion+ speakers for a considerably louder and more immersive sound.

Is It Worthwhile To Download The Soundcore App?

The Motion+’s Soundcore app is simple to use, but it includes important functions as an equaliser and firmware upgrades.

Within the app, Anker includes several EQ presets, including a bass enhancement option.

A button on the speaker can immediately activate the bass increase mode.

The software also has a fully unique nine-band equaliser, allowing you to fine-tune the speaker’s sound to your preference.

Within the app, there isn’t much more to do, which might be a good thing.

You don’t want to be searching through a plethora of menus while you’re on the run anyhow.

Bluetooth Codec Support?

The Anker Soundcore Motion+ supports Bluetooth 5.0.

As well as SBC and aptX. Bluetooth 5.0 has a connection range of up to 243 metres in theory.

But you’re unlikely to get that far. Even with physical barriers.

You won’t have to worry about connection dropouts with the Anker Soundcore Motion+.

Especially within a regular 10m range.

Although the aptX Bluetooth codec enables faster transfer rates than SBC.

It is not compatible with Apple products.

What About The Battery?

With the Soundcore Motion+, Anker guarantees 12 hours of battery life.

Which is significantly less than the top competitors at this price point.

The speaker, on the other hand, lasted 16 hours and 13 minutes in our battery test with continual music listening at 75dB.

Anker appears to have adopted the route of under-promising and over-delivering. That means you won’t run out of battery power on a day trip with this speaker.

The accompanying USB-C cord takes about four hours to fully charge the speaker.

The Soundcore Motion Plus does not support rapid charging.

What About The Sound Quality?

With a narrow 5dB increase from 55-100Hz relative to the red dotted line denoting the idea.

The speaker leaves most sub-bass notes out of the mix out of the box.

This little bump is typical for a portable speaker, and it’s necessary given the scarcity of frequencies below 50Hz.

Any portable speaker of this size will struggle to reproduce such low frequencies at a decent loudness.

Because the Anker Soundcore Motion+ has a fully bespoke EQ built into the Soundcore app.

You may fine-tune the speaker’s sound to your preferences.

Dual tweeters and woofers are pointed upwards at a 15-degree inclination to project sound up and out of the speaker.

The maximum level is loud enough for a small indoor or outdoor party, yet I rarely have to raise it past 50% in most listening situations.

Can You Make a Phone Call?

The microphone on the Anker Soundcore Motion+ is placed next to the “BassUp” button on the top of the speaker.

And it may be used to answer calls without having to use your phone.

Your voice will not be very clear to the person on the other end of the line

Especially if you are not near to and immediately facing the speaker.

But this is standard for this type of product.
