Mangum First United Methodist Church will be offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University beginning August 22, 2010. This course will transform your life as you learn practical ways to manage your finances and get out of debt. This class will show you how to become completely debt free no matter where you are right now. By the end of the class the average family pays off $5,000 in debt and saves $3,000. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to handle the money God entrusts you with His way and what it means to have true financial peace.

Participants may select from three different course sessions to suit their schedule. Classes will be offered on Sunday afternoons from 3:00-5:00 pm; Tuesday mornings from 10:00-12:00 noon; and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm. The course runs for thirteen weeks. Each participating family will need to purchase a Family Membership Kit for $80.00. There will be a free preview and registration opportunity on Sunday, July 25th at 3:00 p.m. at the church, located at 301 W Jefferson. Call the church office at 782-2371 for more information.

Last February the Mangum Tigers hosted the Merritt Oilers in a regular season basketball game. But this particular game had special meaning for Mangum coach, Jeff Carlisle. For the past few years Mangum has participated in the Coaches Vs. Cancer game to raise funds for cancer research. In December 2008 Coach Carlisle’s mother, Vickie Kenney was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away in November 2009. The Coaches Vs. Cancer game against Merritt was played in her honor. Mangum raised over $3,000 and won 2nd in the state. Bethel School placed first with their effort. Shown with the 2nd place trophy is Coach Carlisle with his two sons Zach and Ryan.
