The Mangum Tigers are making it two in a row after an exciting win in the Regional Finals at Apache Saturday to earn their second consecutive trip to the State Baseball Tournament.
The back to back appearances are the first since 1987 and 1988. And the Tigers proved they are up to the task, winning the final game in a blowout.
Mangum faced Apache in the first game on Thursday and got off to a shaky start. After setting Apache down in order in the top of the first Mason Toole reached base when the Apache catcher dropped the ball on the third strike. He stole 2nd and 3rd, then scored on a single by Kolby Miller to take a 1-0 lead.
Apache tied the game in the top of the 3rd, but Mangum regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Logan Hamilton reached on an error, moved to 2nd on a fielder’s choice and to 3rd on a passed ball. Hamilton scored on a single by Miller and the Tigers had a 2-1 advantage.
Apache tied the game again with a run in the top of the 4th and the scored remained tied 2-2 until the bottom of the 6th. With one out Miller drew a walk and Jarred Stockton followed with a homerun over the left field fence for the game winner as the Tigers moved to the winner’s bracket with a 4-2 victory.
