In spite of having a bit of a tough week, the Mangum Tigers moved up a spot in the most recent OKRankings poll, released on Tuesday. The Tigers are now 12-5 through Monday’s games, but took a bit of a hit the later part of the week during the I-40 Classic in Clinton.

The Tigers had an easy time against the Snyder Cyclones early in the week, beating them handily, 17-2.

Mangum was first to score in the top of the 2nd when Tyler Graumann and Levi Richardson drew back to back walks. Mason Toole reached base and Bryce Kilgore followed with a single. Kolby Miller walked and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch which allowed more runs as the Tigers took a 4-0 lead.

Graumann scored in the top of the 3rd, but Snyder cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Walks to Graumann, Toole and Kilgore combined with a double from Miller and triple by Stockton added 5 more runs.

Kilgore and Stockton scored in the 5th and Toole Graumann, Richardson and Gelnar rounded out the scoring in the 6th for the 17-2 victory.

Last February the Mangum Tigers hosted the Merritt Oilers in a regular season basketball game. But this particular game had special meaning for Mangum coach, Jeff Carlisle. For the past few years Mangum has participated in the Coaches Vs. Cancer game to raise funds for cancer research. In December 2008 Coach Carlisle’s mother, Vickie Kenney was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away in November 2009. The Coaches Vs. Cancer game against Merritt was played in her honor. Mangum raised over $3,000 and won 2nd in the state. Bethel School placed first with their effort. Shown with the 2nd place trophy is Coach Carlisle with his two sons Zach and Ryan.
