The iPhone 12 base model may be overlooked. It’s not substantially different in size or camera, and it’s the most iterative in the new portfolio.
This isn’t a simple upgrade to the iPhone 11; it’s a new tier. It’s a step up from the iPhone 12 tiny, but the differences are mostly cosmetic.

India’s iPhone 12 price.
GST rate hikes and USD/INR volatility raised industry prices. Apple upped base pricing, leaving the iPhone 12 tiny to fill the vacuum. Choosing the larger model costs extra. iPhone 12 64GB costs Rs. 79,900 and 256GB costs Rs. 94,900.
iPhone 12 Pro costs 1,19,000. (Apple declined to explain why India’s disparity is larger than elsewhere) The iPhone 12 Pro has a stainless steel frame, double the storage per tier, and a LiDAR sensor for AR and low-light photography. 60fps Dolby Vision HDR movies, Night mode portraiture, ProRAW pictures.
If you don’t care about these features, the cheaper iPhone 12 is a good option.
No iPhone 12 includes a charger or headset. If you don’t have a Type-C converter, purchase a MagSafe pad and an Apple charger. A case and AirPods raise the price.
Design iPhone12
The flat front, back, and frame define iPhone 12. It’s like the iPhone 5, but without bevelled corners. Brighter colours highlight the device’s metal frame. That protects the front and back panels, but I thought the frame might be dinged up without a case.
Ceramic Shield is four times more drop-resistant but not scratch-resistant. This IP68-rated phone withstood being tossed in a pool and was used to record underwater video for many minutes throughout the review period.
The iPhone 12’s absence of rounded corners makes it less comfortable to handle (Review). Thinner, lighter. 7.4mm and 162g differ. iPhone 12 is superior for calls, gaming, video, and feed scrolling.
The non-slip glass allows one-handed use.
Without a case, the back camera rings protrude. Left is volume and mute. Apple’s latest wireless chargers contain a Lightning connector and a MagSafe magnetic ring. eSIMs provide a second line.
iPhone Software/Specs
iPhone 12 and iPad Air have Apple’s A14 Bionic SoC. (2020). It has a dual-core CPU, a quad-core GPU, and more. 5nm is Apple’s fastest and most power-efficient smartphone chip.
Machine learning speeds on-device AI to personalise and secure apps and UI.
iPhone 12’s screen is improved. Apple used the same OLED display on this smartphone as on the iPhone 12 Pro, unlike previous generations when lower-end versions used lower-resolution LCD panels.
iPhone 12 feels luxurious. The 6.1-inch 1170×2532 HDR panel supports Apple True Tone.
The top-notch is large by today’s standards and is annoying when watching fullscreen movies, but it’s not a major concern if you’re used to an iPhone. Android has the edge, despite its lower refresh rate.
Third-party teardowns reveal the iPhone 12’s 2,815mAh battery and 4GB of RAM. Cloud and streaming services have reduced the pain of running out of space.
Sub-6GHz 5G isn’t a selling factor for the iPhone 12, but it may be in India shortly. Apple restricts Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, UWB, GPS, and NFC.

iOS 14 is slick. Smooth, responsive animations. Unused apps load fast. You have more customisation and built-in features (including regional ones) than previous versions, but you still must understand Apple’s technique.
iOS 14’s reliability, durability, and privacy features keep many iPhone customers.
iPhones are popular because of iMessage, FaceTime, and iCloud. Notifications from Apple Music, Arcade, and TV+ are annoying. New iOS devices come with three months of Apple Arcade and a year of TV+, but iCloud storage is 5GB.
iPhone 12 Battery
Everyday performance was perfect. Easy Face ID login, game loading, and app switching. The A14 Bionic’s responsiveness and smoothness defy expectations.
Nothing’s ideal. iPhone 12’s back warmed with normal use. Yes, obviously. When pushing the A14 Bionic SoC to its limits in games and tests, the rear and metal frame got hot. Helpful case.
Apple’s performance is measured. Geekbench 5 scored 1,563 single-core and 3,675 multi-core vs. AnTuTu’s 5,68,462. Except for Aztec Ruins (High Tier), every GFXBench scene ran at 58fps or better.
3DMark Wild Life got 6660. In our iPhone 12 mini-review, I saw a performance drop after a few Wild Life loops. The iPhone 12’s stability score was 71.2 per cent.
Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends ran hot. Lara Croft Go and Alto’s Odyssey was fun. Bluetooth earphones or a Lightning-connected headset from an older iPhone are required.
Brilliant, interesting screen. The notch ruins videos and games. The iPhone 12 improves on its predecessors with HDR films. Dual speakers produce full, clear sound at high volumes

The battery isn’t great, but it lasts a day. If you play games, stream music, check social media, and shoot photos and videos, charge your phone every night (or use a MagSafe pad).
The iPhone 12 lasted 14 hours, and 32 minutes on our HD movie loop test, beating the iPhone 12 small by a narrow margin.
Apple no longer includes a charger, so consumers must utilise adapters with different outputs.
